BELOIT, Wisc. (Feb. 26, 2019) – For the second time in five years, Travis Becker, director of
instruction at the Beloit Club and Ironworks Golf Lab, has been named the Wisconsin PGA
(WPGA) Teacher of the Year.
The Teacher of the Year award recognizes individuals who provide outstanding services as a
golf teacher, innovator and coach. Because of his teaching success, Becker is the only coach in
Wisconsin to lead PGA Junior League All Star teams in two different regions to a state
championship.
Becker’s junior golf programs now reach more than 400 kids annually, and he has performed
more than 15,000 golf lessons. Additionally, he previously received the WPGA Teacher of the
Year honor in 2015, and was also named Assistant Golf Professional of the Year in 2009.
“I am thrilled yet humbled to be selected as the 2019 Wisconsin PGA Teacher of the Year,”
Becker said. “I’m passionate about developing relationships with golfers and helping them
improve their game, and I’m thankful to be able to do that through my work at the Beloit Club
and Ironworks Golf Academy.”
He has also been recruited by the NBC Golf Channel Academy and acts as one of two lead
instructors in the state.
Becker joined Beloit Club, Beloit’s premier private golf club and entertainment facility, and
Ironworks Golf Academy, Wisconsin’s state-of-the-art indoor golf performance and
entertainment facility, in 2016 as director of instruction. Previously, Becker spent 17 years at
Cherokee Country Club in Madison, Wisconsin, as head golf professional under the tutelage of
Larry and Dennis Tiziani, two of the state’s most decorated teachers.
“We are proud of Travis and all he has accomplished,” said Jeff Whiteman, chief operating
officer at Geronimo Hospitality Group. “His passion for teaching – coupled with the top-notch
staff, facilities and technologies available at the Beloit Club and Ironworks Golf Academy – is
unmatched in the Midwest.”
The PGA of America is the world’s largest working sports organization, with more than 28,000
expert golf professionals who are dedicated to growing, teaching and managing the game. The
Wisconsin section is one of the 41 affiliated regional sections, with more than 500 members and
associates from the upper peninsula of Michigan to nearly the entire state of Wisconsin.
Becker will be officially recognized on March 4 at the 2019 Special Awards Reception held at
the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.
