Tournament honored with award for second consecutive year

For the second year in a row, the American Family Insurance Championship in Madison, Wisconsin, was named the recipient of the prestigious President’s Award from PGA TOUR Champions.

The award is given to the tournament that demonstrates outstanding achievement in a number of areas, including charitable giving, sales, attendance and economic impact, as well as intangibles that set it apart. The President’s Award was presented at the TOUR’s tournament meetings in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida on Nov. 20.

“Since 2016, the American Family Insurance Championship has established a reputation with our players, partners and fans as one of the premier events on the annual PGA TOUR Champions schedule,” said PGA TOUR Champions President Miller Brady. “American Family Insurance, along with Steve and Nicki Stricker, have spearheaded the tremendous community impact this tournament creates, and I’m honored to present the 2019 President’s Award to their event.”

The American Family Insurance Championship has continued to raise the bar, exceeding expectations since its beginning in 2016. More than 70,000 fans attended the championship this year, supported by a volunteer base of 1,200 people from 15 states. Special tournament-week events featured a sold-out concert headlined by Toby Keith and a celebrity foursome of Keith, Brett Favre, Andy North and Jack Nicklaus. The championship produced an estimated economic impact of approximately $15 million.

The tournament recently announced it had raised a total of $2.4 million in 2019 for nearly 100 charities. In its first four years, the tournament has already raised more than $7.1 million and distributed grants to 280 non-profits.

“Receiving this honor two years in a row is truly special,” said Nate Pokrass, tournament director. “It affirms our team’s dedication, and amazing support we’ve received from Steve and Nicki, volunteers, sponsors, partners and fans. We are humbled to accept the award for them and their shared passion for the championship and charity.”

The American Family Insurance Championship is proud to support the American Family Children’s Hospital and other local charitable organizations through the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation.

This is the third honor from PGA TOUR Champions for the American Family Insurance Championship. In addition to the President’s Award in 2019 and 2018, the tournament received the Outstanding Achievement award in 2016, its inaugural year.

His other dream, albeit far-fetched, it to record an ace in all seven states of our distribution area. Thanks to an ace in Illinois in 2015, and one in Michigan in 2016, he has three down, four to go!
