The founder of Sight Ball developed multiple golf products designed to improve the golfing experience, turning an idea into an entrepreneurial venture that attracted national media attention.
OVERLAND PARK, KANSAS — Sometimes the best business ideas come from recognizing an opportunity hiding in plain sight. For entrepreneur Harry Briggs, that opportunity came from watching golfers practice.
While working at a golf course, Briggs noticed that players frequently drew lines, markings, and other designs on their golf balls to improve their alignment and accuracy. He began wondering whether there was a better, more permanent solution that could help golfers improve their game.
That observation eventually became Sight Ball, an innovative golf training product featuring six strategically positioned visual targets across the surface of a golf ball.
What started as an idea evolved into a patent-pending product, a growing business, and an exciting entrepreneurial journey.
A Different Approach to Golf Improvement
Briggs developed the F.A.S.T. Method, which stands for Focus, Accuracy, Stance, and Training. The concept gives golfers a visual reference point to help establish proper alignment, maintain focus, position their stance, and develop more consistent practice habits.
Unlike traditional golf balls, Sight Ball incorporates six visual targets that allow golfers to approach alignment and ball positioning from multiple angles.
The product is designed to help golfers establish better fundamentals during practice and transfer those visual habits to their regular golf game.
Sight Ball received recognition from several golf and business media outlets, including GOLF Magazine, Golf Tips, Fox Sports, and Fox Business.
In September 2019, GOLF.com featured Sight Ball in its “Training Aid of the Week” series, highlighting the product’s unique design and its potential applications for improving ball focus and alignment.
Building a Business From the Ground Up
Developing the product was only the beginning. Briggs faced the challenges that come with turning an invention into a legitimate business, including product development, manufacturing, marketing, distribution, and sales.
With support from family, friends, and the Washburn University Small Business Development Center, he worked to transform his concept into a marketable product.
Through golf professional demonstrations, trade shows, golf course partnerships, and direct marketing, Briggs introduced Sight Ball to golfers across the country.
The journey also provided Briggs with opportunities to appear on national television and introduce the product to audiences well beyond the golf industry.
Expanding the Vision: Developing Products Beyond Sight Ball
As Sight Ball continued to develop, Briggs recognized additional opportunities to create products that addressed everyday challenges golfers encountered on the course. Rather than limiting the business to a single invention, he began applying the same entrepreneurial approach to identifying consumer needs, developing practical solutions, and bringing new products to market.
This led to the development of two additional golf-related products: Sight Stickers and MagCaddie.
Sight Stickers, developed under Pin High Inc., introduced distance decals designed to provide golfers with a convenient visual reference for measuring distances on the golf course.
MagCaddie, developed through the Holstery and MagMaster product concepts, expanded the product portfolio with another innovative golf accessory.
Briggs approached each product with the same development philosophy: identify an opportunity, understand the customer’s needs, create a solution, evaluate its functionality, and develop a marketable product.
By expanding beyond Sight Ball, Briggs demonstrated his ability to recognize new market opportunities, develop complementary products, build multiple product concepts, and grow an entrepreneurial brand. His experience extended beyond invention into product strategy, branding, marketing, and commercialization.
Together, Sight Ball, Sight Stickers, and MagCaddie represent Briggs’s broader vision of creating practical innovations that improve the golfing experience while playing a round on the course, not just on the practice range.
An Entrepreneurial Journey Built on Innovation
For Briggs, the experience was about more than creating golf accessories. It was about recognizing opportunities, challenging traditional approaches, and having the determination to turn ideas into real products.
From the initial concept and product development to manufacturing, marketing, media exposure, and sales, Briggs gained firsthand experience in nearly every aspect of building a business.
His journey demonstrates that innovation does not always require reinventing an entire industry. Sometimes, it starts with identifying a problem that others have overlooked and finding a practical way to solve it.
From one observation at a golf course to multiple product developments and national media recognition, Harry Briggs built Sight Ball into an example of what can happen when creativity, persistence, and entrepreneurial execution come together.
