The Quarry will open on May 1; Play slated to begin on The Legend eight days later

(BIWABIK, Minn.) – Giants Ridge – Minnesota’s premier all-seasons recreation area set in the rugged beauty of the Mesabi Iron Range – announces the reopening of its top-rated golf courses, The Quarry and The Legend, for the 2026 season.

The Quarry will open for play on May 1, while play will commence on its older sibling, The Legend, on May 9. Tee times are currently being accepted for both courses, and can be reserved by calling 218-865-8030.

A convenient three-hour drive from the Minneapolis – St. Paul metro area, Giants Ridge boasts two of the highest-ranked layouts in the state. Although both The Quarry and The Legend were designed by renowned architect Jeffrey Brauer, each course features its own unique layout and character.

The Quarry, aptly named for its location on a former sand quarry and iron ore mine, is frequently regarded as the best public golf course in Minnesota. The course features dramatically elevated tees and hazards forged from reclaimed and repurposed mine land, offering stunning vistas of the Iron Range that distinguish it from other courses.

Established in 1997, The Legend is recognized for establishing the golf scene in Minnesota’s Iron Range and transforming the region into a globally renowned golf destination. Set within the Superior National Forest, the player-friendly layout weaves through towering pines and alongside the sparkling Sabin Lake.

To commemorate the beginning of the golf season, Giants Ridge reintroduces its popular 36-Hole Golf Special package. Available from May 29 through Aug. 23, the package includes golf with a cart on both of Giants Ridge’s award-winning courses, range balls, and lunch between rounds for $210 on weekdays and $230 on weekends.

“After a long Minnesota winter, we are thrilled to welcome golfers back to our award-winning courses,” says John Kendall, Director of Golf at Giants Ridge. “Whether you’re a young player, an experienced golfer, on a buddies trip, or enjoying a family getaway, both The Legend and The Quarry deliver outstanding golf experiences in one of the most picturesque settings in the country.”

Giants Ridge continues to set the standard as Minnesota’s leading golf destination. Golfweek’s “Ultimate Guide to Golf Course Living and Great Escapes 2026” placed The Quarry at No. 35 in its “Top 200 Resort Courses in the U.S.” rankings. The Quarry finished ahead of the Loop Red and Black Course at Forest Dunes in Michigan and just behind Mossy Oak in Mississippi.

The Legend was also listed in Golfweek’s annual rankings of the top resort courses in the U.S., finishing tied for 123rd with the Lakes Course at Grand National in Alabama. Finishing just ahead of The Legend at 122nd was the Ocean Course at Hokuala in Hawaii, while the Ocean South Course at Pelican Hill in California was 125th.

Beyond its two superb golf courses, Giants Ridge offers numerous crystal-clear lakes, rivers and streams ideal for swimming, boating and fishing. Hiking and biking trails also cut through the towering pines found in the area, and chairlift rides offer breathtaking views of the stunning Iron Range.

Giants Ridge also offers a variety of amenities to enhance the experience, including lodging options nearby, as well as multiple on-site dining choices, such as Burnt Onion Kitchen & Brews,  Bunkers at The Legend and the Wacootah Grill.
