Golf Digest and Golfweek Name The Quarry Best Public Course in Minnesota; The Legend Retains Top-10 Ranking in Golfweek’s Best in State Listing

(BIWABIK, Minn.) – Giants Ridge – Minnesota’s premier golf and outdoor recreation destination set in the rugged beauty of the Mesabi Iron Range announces both of its championship courses, The Quarry and The Legend, achieved top honors in the latest golf course rankings unveiled by Golf Digest and Golfweek.

The Quarry finished 58th in Golf Digest’s bi-annual list of America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses, and was the only course in Minnesota listed among the top-70. Golf Digest started this list in 2003, and per the publication, “the ranking, based on tens of thousands of evaluations submitted by our traveling course-ranking panelists, is a reflection of the architectural merits of each course.”

Golfweek also tabbed The Quarry as the “Best Course You Can Play” in Minnesota for the 10th straight year. Designed by Jeff Brauer on the site of a former sand quarry and iron ore mine, The Quarry also tied for 35th with Mossy Oak in Mississippi in Golfweek’s ranking of the best resort courses in the U.S. Ranked just above The Quarry at No. 34 was the Dunes Course at Prairie Club in Nebraska. Finishing 37th was Black Jack’s Crossing at Lajitas in Texas.

The Legend also shone in Golfweek’s latest rankings, finishing sixth in the Best Course You Can Play in Minnesota list and 108th among top U.S. resort courses. Among those The Legend finished ahead of in the resort course rankings were the Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas and the Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio, the site of the PGA Tour’s Valero Texas Open. Carved out of the Superior National Forest, The Legend is a true northwoods Brauer-design featuring towering pines, giant fairways and majestic views of the Wynne and Sabin Lakes.

Golfweek’s elite team of more than 700 course raters determines the publication’s annual course ranking lists. Each year, the panel evaluates courses, grading each nominated layout based on 10 criteria. According to Golfweek, “[the raters]also file a single overall rating on each course. Those overall rankings on each course are averaged, then each course is ranked against other courses.”

“Being selected once again by both Golfweek and Golf Digest’s esteemed panels as having the top public courses in Minnesota is truly an honor,” says John Kendall, director of golf at Giants Ridge. “Our staff does a remarkable job of upholding superior course conditioning and service standards, making for an amazing golf experience. We are proud of these prestigious accolades.”

Both The Legend and The Quarry kicked off the 2025 golf season on May 2nd. To commemorate the beginning of the golf season, Giants Ridge re-introduces its popular 36-Hole Golf Special package. Labeled “Minnesota’s Greatest Value in Golf”, the package includes golf with a cart on both of Giants Ridge’s award-winning courses, range balls, and lunch between rounds for $205 on weekdays and $220 on weekends. Tee times are currently being accepted for both courses and can be reserved by calling 218-865-8030.

Guests can also book individual rounds on both courses with select rates between now and the end of the golf season. Through May 29th and from Sept. 29th to the end of the season, golfers can take advantage of early and late season pricing with rounds starting as low as $96. Prime season pricing runs from May 30 to Sept. 28, with regular rates starting at $130 and twilight rounds available for $96.

A convenient three-hour drive from the Minneapolis – St. Paul metro area, Giants Ridge boasts two of the highest-ranked layouts in the state. Although both The Legend and The Quarry were designed by renowned architect Jeffrey Brauer, each course features its own unique layout and character.

Beyond its two superb golf courses, Giants Ridge offers numerous crystal-clear lakes, rivers and streams ideal for swimming, boating and fishing. Hiking and biking trails also cut through the towering pines found in the area, and chairlift rides offer breathtaking views of the stunning Iron Range.

Giants Ridge also offers a range of amenities to enhance the visiting experience from several surrounding lodging facilities to multiple on-site dining options including Burnt Onion Kitchen & Brews,  Bunkers at The Legend and the Wacootah Grill.
