Jay’s Tee Box
For the first time since I can remember, Midwest Golfing Magazine almost needed to expand from our typical 64-page publication. Quite frankly, that’s because our outstanding staff has too many remarkable stories to tell!
It starts with our cover feature on Erin Hills, who is preparing to host the U.S. Women’s Open starting on May 29th. Amazingly, the Southeastern Wisconsin gem will join Pinehurst and Pebble Beach as the only three properties to host both U.S.G.A Championships. Editor-in-Chief Glen Turk has chronicled Erin Hills’ journey from the start and is honored to continue our coverage.
The Badger State is further featured thanks to articles on Lawsonia in Green Lake, and The Bull at Pinehurst Farms in Sheboygan Falls by Lead Staff Writer Matt Tevsh. The Links of Lawsonia (#62) and The Bull (#88) are both on Golf Digest’s 2025 America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses (as is Erin Hills at #10), making this issue a best-of-the-best for sure!
Wisconsin’s neighbor to the east, Michigan, is also prominently highlighted within our Spring Issue as our staff is thrilled to produce exposes on the Greater Lansing area, Black Lake in Onaway, and Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor. Harbor Shores was recently bestowed the honor of 2024 Michigan Golf Course of The Year by the Michigan Golf Course Owners Association – a tribute to not only the course, but their entire revitalization project as well.
Minnesota, also known as The Gopher State, is filled with stunning properties, including Dacotah Ridge in Morton and Giants Ridge is Biwabik. Dacotah Ridge is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and Glen Turk takes a thoughtful look back at their last quarter-century of greatness. Giants Ridge recently also celebrated its silver anniversary at The Legend, and the number course in the state, The Quarry, will turn 25 in 2028.
We are also excited to once again feature Lodges of The Lakes near Sand Valley and Lake Arrowhead in Central Wisconsin. Owner John Bergin’s luxurious vacation homes are right in the middle of all the action and are a must stay option according to Matt Tevsh.
Finally, an issue of Midwest Golfing Magazine wouldn’t be complete without Chip Shots, Ask Annex, Paul Seifert’s Best of The Midwest, our Spring Product Guide, Michael Crowley’s Pro Page, and the always entertaining Turk’s Takes.
