For the first time since 1974 there is a four-way tie at the top of the leader board after round two of the U.S. Open. Paul Casey, Brooks Koepka, Brian Harman, and Tommy Fleetwood all stand at 7-under par after day two. A large pack of capable chasers including first round leader Rickie Fowler (6-under), Sergio Garcia (3-under) are poised to make the weekend a memorable one at Erin Hills.

Wisconsin’s Steve Stricker and Jordan Niebrugge (plus 1 over par) both made the cut as well fan favorite Jordan Spieth (even par). Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama almost broke a long-standing U.S. Open by shooting 8-under par in one round. His birdie putt on 18 barely missed and the #4 ranked player carded an impressive 65 (7-under) in tougher afternoon conditions. He stands at 5-under and two shots back after round two.

Also for the first time since 1986, the top three golfers in the world according to rankings (Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, and Jason Day) all missed the cut in the same major.
