The transcendent power of golf is never more present than during spring in the Midwest. Midwest Golfing Magazine is honored to share the best places to play throughout our new 12 state distribution region for a 22nd consecutive year.

We begin with a cover feature on a course that is exactly as old as we are, The Bull at Pinehurst Farms, in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. The Badger State’s only Jack Nicklaus Signature is back and better than ever thanks to Randy Groth and John Dunfee, who purchased the property in 2020. As Editor Glen Turk reports, the time to play The Bull is now thanks to their affordable dynamic pricing model and superior conditions.

Staying in Wisconsin, new staff writer Grant Taebel reviews one of his favorite courses in the Badger State, The Oaks in Cottage Grove. There is always something going on at The Oaks, as they have developed a thriving 12-month-a-year business thanks to three indoor simulators, an immaculate wedding/banquet venue, and a championship course. Lead Staff Writer Matt Tevsh introduces you to a new MGM partner, Lodges of The Lakes and their stable of rental properties a pitching wedge away from Sand Valley and Lake Arrowhead in Central Wisconsin.

We then pivot to The Wolverine State where former LPGA player Elizabeth Nagel goes back to her old stomping grounds for a feature on the Greater Lansing area. With a dozen plus courses in a 30-mile radius, Greater Lansing needs to be on your golf radar this year! Our girl power is on full display in Michigan, as Deb Patton chronicles the Rees Jones gem Black Lake Golf Club in Onaway. It’s one of her all-time favorites and for good reason.

MGM also makes our way into The Gopher State, with features on Giants Ridge in the Superior National Forest and Dacotah Ridge in southcentral Minnesota. Both properties are known for their attention to detail when hosting groups of eight or more.

Midwest Golfing Magazine is honored to highlight the 2024 U.S. Open host site Pinehurst Resort. Known as the nation’s Home of Golf, the 129-year-old property is opening their first new championship course in over 30 years, No. 10 as part of their Pinehurst Sandmines expansion. These sure are heady times for the North Carolina juggernaut.

Speaking of tradition, staff writer Auroon Thapa explores the 112-year history of Wilson Golf and their amazing new AI Fit technology. A perfect custom fitting experience can now be yours in only five swings – where can I sign up?

Finally, a MGM Issue wouldn’t be complete without Chip Shots, Ask Annex, our Spring Product Guide, Best of The Midwest by Paul Seifert, and Michael Crowley’s Pro Page.

Glen Turk is a Wisconsin native who has been the Senior Writer/Editor of Midwest Golfing Magazine since 2006. Besides being an avid golfer, Glen enjoys traveling, music, and cheering on the finest professional sports team of all-time, the Green Bay Packers. Glen’s ultimate golf goal is to play in all fifty states and currently he is more than half way there. His other dream, albeit far-fetched, it to record an ace in all seven states of our distribution area. Thanks to an ace in Illinois in 2015, and one in Michigan in 2016, he has three down, four to go!
