Summertime is the perfect time for golf in the Midwest. The grass is green, the trees are in full bloom, and the days are longer – three factors that make June, July, and August prime golfing months. This year Midwest Golfing Magazine has combed our eight state distribution area and beyond to show you the best places to enjoy golf for this 93 day stretch.

We begin with our Distinctive Destination, Green Lake, WI. I am biased since I live less than an hour away, but you’d be hard pressed to find a more affordable golf destination that Green Lake. As Senior Writer Glen Turk points out, average green fees are low and the quality of courses is high.

Another destination that gets two thumbs up is the Pete Dye Golf Trail, a collection of seven courses in the Hoosier State all designed by Indiana legend Pete Dye. I’ll be heading there this October, and I strongly recommend you beat my group to the punch.

Our last Midwest feature highlights Black Lake GC in Onaway, Michigan – a Rees Jones gem carved out of the northwoods. If getting away from it all sounds like the perfect summer plan, then a trip to Black Lake must be made now!

But we are not confined to the Midwest as MGM heads to Oklahoma and New Mexico for articles on Shangri-la Golf Resort and Golf on The Santa Fe Trail respectively. Glen Turk just experienced golf in New Mexico and says it’s a must-do trip for Midwesterners who love desert golf without the heat and humidity.

In this issue we are also debuting Preferred Properties, a feature that showcases the finest public golf in the Midwest. Our inaugural selection is Mistwood Golf Club in Romeoville, IL. Staying in the Chicago area, Deb Patton focuses on one of our favorite golf company, Tour Edge Golf. And lastly, a copy of MGM would not be complete without Deb Patton’s Forward Tees, Chip Shots, our Pro Page with Nate Gray, and Turk’s Takes.

Glen Turk is a Wisconsin native who has been the Senior Writer/Editor of Midwest Golfing Magazine since 2006. Besides being an avid golfer, Glen enjoys traveling, music, and cheering on the finest professional sports team of all-time, the Green Bay Packers. Glen’s ultimate golf goal is to play in all fifty states and currently he is more than half way there. His other dream, albeit far-fetched, it to record an ace in all seven states of our distribution area. Thanks to an ace in Illinois in 2015, and one in Michigan in 2016, he has three down, four to go!
