SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.—March 9, 2022—Ryan Schroeder has been named Director of Agronomy for the Boulders’ Golf Club. By definition, agronomy is the science of producing plants by agriculture for food, fuel, fiber, recreation or land conservation. As an expert in the field, Schroeder now oversees all golf course maintenance operations for the two championship golf courses including the driving range, and the surrounding lush desertscape.

Schroeder joins the Boulders Resort, most recently, from Troon Country Club where he held the title of Assistant Supervisor and earlier, Second Assistant Supervisor since 2015.
He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Turfgrass Management from Pennsylvania State University and is currently working on an MPS (Master Professional Studies) degree.
The Boulders’ golf courses have been long known for their pristine, verdant fairways, even during the hot summer temperatures when bent grass thrives at the Boulders slightly higher elevation. “In the fall, bent grass greens don’t require overseeding, so there is no grow-in time for the winter rye grass and no change in the smooth and true putting surfaces,” explains Schroeder.
As the Boulders Resort continues to strive to create an environment that is harmonious to its natural setting, some of the environmental initiatives on the golf course include local grasses that require considerably less water than the type of grass normally associated with golf courses and the use of natural insecticides and non-toxic chemicals whenever possible.
