Spring has sprung, and with it the promise of your best golf season yet. So, what will make 2021 the top season you’ve ever had? Is it playing the finest golf of your career? Sure, that might be it, but if you’re a recreational player like me, I’m just hoping to get up on the right side of the bed each morning and hit a few decent shots per round.
A more attainable goal might be to play five to 10 new courses this year plus take one or more memorable buddies/couples trips. It’s been said the business of life is making memories, and we believe the courses featured within our Spring Issue can help you do just that.
We begin with four features from The Badger State, which is quietly turning into one of the top golf destinations in the world, let alone the nation. The Golf Courses of Lawsonia features two remarkable 18s – the nationally acclaimed The Links and The Woodlands – the later of which just completed a thrilling renovation. Trappers Turn in Wisconsin Dells is set to open 12North on July 1st, a 12-hole, par-3 course designed by Andy North and Craig Haltom, which will give one of the top courses in the state even more firepower. Next, Matt Tevsh continues the stellar story of The Club at Lac La Belle, which re-opened to the public last year. We then head less than 30 miles north of Lac La Belle to Morningstar Golfers Club, a Rick Jacobson design that is one of the southeast Wisconsin’s best. Finally, we end north of Green Bay to show off Pine Hills Golf Course, which is part of North Star Mohican Casino Resort, and offers outstanding golf and gaming packages.
We then head across Lake Michigan to Harbor Shores for a feature on the Jack Nicklaus Signature Design and the impact the property has had on the Benton Harbor community since 2010. Mr. Nicklaus also designed American Dunes in nearby Grand Haven, which is opening to the public on May 1st. Matt Tevsh was fortunate enough to attend last year’s media day and files an awesome Golf Quest feature with the 18-time major winner and Ohio native.
Just north of Indianapolis resides Hamilton County, home to 14 courses in a 25-mile radius. Editor Glen Turk played five of them over three whirlwind days and files his fun Postcards from Hamilton County story. We also feature the Land of 10,000 Lakes, Minnesota, by taking you to Dacotah Ridge Golf Club and the adjacent Jackpot Junction Casino Hotel in Morton. Rees Jones is one of our favorite designers and his 2000 masterpiece is a must-play in Minnesota!
Our Spring Issue rounds out with a business feature on Pointsbet USA, the official betting partner of the PGA TOUR, plus partners with the NHL and the Chicago Bears. Finally, an issue of Midwest Golfing Magazine wouldn’t be complete without Chip Shots, Turk’s Takes, and a product feature dubbed “A Good Walk Unspoiled” designed to make your game better if you love walking.
