2020 not only marks the 18th season of Midwest Golfing Magazine, but also our third decade in the golf magazine business. In that time, we’ve been fortunate enough to produce 68 issues with a distribution rate to over 1/7th of the nation. But in all our publications, I don’t believe we’ve ever spanned the globe with more effectiveness than within the issue you are about to read. Sure, we’ve had travel issues that have included stories on warm weather locals within the United States, but never have our staffers traveled across both ponds within such a short time frame.
To that end, Brian Weis spent 12 days in Thailand in early November and came back full of stories, memories, and a deep appreciation of their culture and emerging golf scene. Nearly at the same time, Jason Kauflin and his wife ventured to Scotland for their 25th wedding anniversary that included an amazing round at St. Andrews. We continue our international theme with a preview of the 2020 Ryder Cup, arguably the most important golf event that will ever been held in Wisconsin.
We also sent long-time Editor Glen Turk on a pair of slightly shorter trips this fall, and I know you’ll love his features on the Ozarks Region of Missouri and Gulf Shores, Alabama. As Glen writes, 2020 will be a huge year for the Branson, Missouri area as Tiger Woods’ first public course, Payne’s Valley, is set to open mid-year.
Our lead staff writer, Matt Tevsh, was also busy this off season, checking out the brand new Topgolf Suite at Potawatomi Hotel & Casino, which graces our first cover of the new decade. Matt also reacquaints our readers with Santee, South Carolina, which is aptly named “America’s Value Golf Destination.”
Our 2020 Golf Show Issue is also filled with articles you’ve come to expect this time of year, including Deb Patton’s always enjoyable Must Haves product reviews, Glen Turk’s PGA Merchandise Show Editor’s Choice Awards, and Nate Gray’s Pro Page. Finally, make sure you read pages xx-xx, as LPGA Tour Player Liz Nagel from Michigan details her dreams of making the tour again over 12 grueling rounds of Q-School this fall.
