Tops on that list in French Lick Resort in French Lick, Indiana. This is one of my favorite buddies destinations in the Midwest and the nation for that matter. What I love most is you can test your skills on three of the coolest courses (Pete Dye, Donald Ross, Valley Links) by day, and then by night gamble at their luxury casino.
The Donald Ross Course at French Lick Resort will host a Symetra Tour event for the second consecutive year, one of eight Midwest events on their 2019 schedule. Our cover story by Women’s Editor Deb Patton delves into why the Midwest is such a perfect fit for the official developmental golf tour of the LPGA.
Just over two hours northeast of Larry Bird’s childhood home in French Lick resides Belterra Casino Resort, another phenomenal Indiana stay and play casino option. As lead staff writer Matt Tevsh points out golf and gaming go together on the Ohio River like me and the thought a new set of clubs will drastically improve my game every year!
We continue to traverse our eight-state distribution area with features on the Greater Lansing area, which is amazingly home to over 30 courses in a 450,000-person metro area. MGM then drove west to highlight two remarkable stops in the Badger State – Lawsonia in Green Lake and Golf Central Wisconsin, which includes fabulous layouts Stevens Point CC and Bulls Eye CC.
I expect to receive a lot of gas receipts from our staff shortly, as MGM also headed to Dacotah Ridge and the adjacent Jackpot Junction Casino in Morton, MN. Minnesota’s only fully-designed Rees Jones course has long been one of our favorites in the Gopher State.
MGM also was in Illinois this spring to detail the ascent of Mistwood Golf Club, Chicago’s premier full-service public facility. The property includes an incredible performance center, stunning wedding and banquet spaces, plus last year they purchased a golf dome less than 15 minutes from the course. If you live near the Windy City this is your year-round destination!
Looking to travel outside of the Midwest this Spring? We’ve got that covered as well as Matt Tevsh spent four days in the Mountains to Midlands region on South Carolina last December and come back raving about his experience. This is a golf destination on the rise that won’t break the bank and we highly recommend it for your next buddies trip.
Finally, a spring issue wouldn’t be complete without our annual Golf ‘s Gallery Guide, Midwest Golfing Personals [featuring Bryson DeChambeau], Chip Shots, Nate Gray’s Pro Page, and the always comical Turk’s Takes.
